The mystery of speaking
Over time, many people have "seen" speaking as an ordinary task. This is because anyone who does not have a speech disability speaks everyday!
YES!
As much as we do this very often, it has been abused by some, and used unrealistically by others.
Speaking is a SKILL that requires SKILLS! You do not just open your mouth to say what you feel, rather you should be intentional about what you utter. Let me explain.
What you say is equally important as how you say it. Communication is not as simple as stringing words together. As a good speaker, your audience should be given a meaning that they can understand.
For example: I once told a friend that she was super hot and I could give her all my money almost immediately. Guess what, she started sending me romantic messages afterward, telling me how much she was in love with me. I was confused at first, until she explained to me that she was a lesbian and she needed a partner, and my words passed that message!
WHAT! I screamed! I was simply admiring her outfit that day, because she wore a red dress that looked really fanciful! I had to clear the stir in the air and explain to her what my real intention was, and we both apologized to each other.
As you will assume, I became more intentional about the choice of my words henceforth, and I evaluated my audience before speaking.
You need to carefully select your words, evaluate who you want to speak with, where they are, what they do and with whom they are with before you speak. Remember SPEAKING IS A SKILL THAT REQUIRES SLILLS!
Have you ever been misunderstood or misunderstood someone because of their word choice?
If yes, share with me in the comment section.
