Building your Personal Brand
I know you have come across those set of people that make videos or write blogs (just like this one) and tell you to pay them to "teach" you something or subscribe to their newsletters to "know the step-by-step" guide on how to do something.
Truth be told, sometimes, you underestimate these people, you think there is nothing new to hear, because you have heard it all, until you realize they know just "one thing" that you do not know and this "one thing" has made them have better results than you have.
Guess what, because of this "one thing", you find yourself paying these people to learn more, and this is where they begin to earn from you. Sadly, sometimes you realize that, that "one thing" is the only thing they know better, and you regret paying afterward. Other times, you are grateful you paid them, because you realize they have the KEY to your success and growth in a certain area.
This is what people like Oprah Winfrey, Elon Musk, Chris Do, Mel Robins, Steve Harvey, Seth Godin and Kim Kardashian do. They simply make money from their strengths and passions.
I had seen MANY people monetize their skills and expertise for the longest time, I admired them for the longest time too, I wanted to also monetize my skills, but I was stuck as to how to start. I started reading articles, watching videos, reading books, attending webinars and many more activities, just to fit in.......
UNTIL........
I came across one random article that emphasized on the difference between "Strengths" and "Passion", and this article led me to do a self reflection.
I had to assess myself and highlight my values, skills, strengths and passion. Guess what? I realized I could monetize my expertise. Right now, I earn between hundreds to thousands of dollars by helping people find their strength and monetize their values.
In this blog, I will show you four simple steps to help you monetize your values.
1. Identify your strengths and passions.
This is the step where you Highlight one thing that you KNOW best or DO best. It must be something you can do for yourself and others repeatedly to get a certain result.
For example, if you know how to be committed to the gym and you have built muscles well, this can be a strength. While, Your passion is something you enjoy doing, for example, you might like dancing.
2. Map out your audience.
This is the step where you decide who you want to help.
Who needs that strength of yours? Who are the people you can help? Once you identify them, list out their characteristics, and this will help you spot them when you see them.
For example, if you can help people lose weight, your audience are:
- People who are obese
- People who want to be fit
- People who want to lose excess fat
3. Choose your platform.
This is the step where you choose your comfort zone.
What medium do you want to pitch your value? On what channel do you want people to find you? What social media platform is easiest for you to navigate? Once you find this platform, learn the dynamics and be consistent about talking about your value on that platform.
For example, As a fitness coach, you can select Instagram, create a profile, and start posting pictures of your strength training sessions, and cardio sessions on that page.
4. Build your offer.
This is the point where you place a price on your value. How much are you worth? What does it cost you to achieve those results for people? How long will it take you?
For example, If you want to help people lose weight, you can decide a price by knowing how long it takes a person to lose weight? This means they have to be accountable to you and can require you to take them on cardio sessions and workout with them, this way you can place a figure on your value.
These are the 4 steps you need to take to start earning from your skills!
